DNS Configuration (Domain Forwarding)

How do I point my domain name at my site?

This is one of the most common questions we receive - but it is also one of the most difficult to answer.

Because every registration service is different, here are the basics:

1.) Login to the site where you registered the domain name (e.g. godaddy.com or namecheap.com)

2.) Locate where you edit  DNS settings or Host Records. We are looking for two records: @ and WWW

3) Set your www record to be a CNAME pointed at YOURSUBDOMAIN.bombplates.com (replacing YOURSUBDOMAIN with the subdomain you chose when you signed up).

4.) If your registrar supports it, your @ record should be a URL redirect to your www record. (e.g. if your domain is myband.com, your @ record should be a URL redirect to http://www.myband.com).

Some registrars, such as GoDaddy, do not support URL redirects. These users will need to obtain their IP address from Bombplates. In these cases, your @ record should be an "A" entry pointing to the IP address provided by Bombplates.

For more information on CNAME entry for specific services, here are some of the most common:

If you want to send or receive email through YOURDOMAIN.COM, you will need to configure MX records as well. We recommend using Google apps to handle your email, which has instructions for configuring your MX records: http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=33352

We set up our site as something.com, but what if we want to change it to somethingelse.com later? OR What if we want both something.com and something.net pointing to our Bombplates site?

You can point any number of domains that you control to your Bombplates site. For any url that you want to point to your site, simply edit your DNS records and make both the @ and WWW records be a CNAME pointed to YOURSUBDOMAIN.bombplates.com.
